Her speech moved me. It's like watching a movie, what she said is like she's saying that to your face. I've been struggling about my goals in my life, people ask me to stop thinking about it and go with the flow. I'm lucky enough to have a flow for me to follow, a model to "success" is clearly placed in front of me. However, I do not see myself in love with "success". "Success" in my family dictionary linked to reality and money, to be able to support oneself and the next generation is success. The question is: are we living just to stay alive?

I'm picking some of the phrases and add a personal touch to it. The post are all words, read as you may.

"There is an expiry date on blaming your parents for steering you in the wrong direction; the moment you are old enough to take the wheel, responsibility lies with you."
About responsibility, people at my age, living with parents, still sort of relying on them and blame them. They love you and allow you to blame them in order to make yourself feel better. But then, when's the time that one really takes responsibility to his/her own actions? I would admit myself not taking enough responsibility, and I still do not have that sense of responsibility yet. Fussing around, wondering how I can take it up, the date has expired and I'm still in a comfortable cocoon.

Parents, unconsciously protect their children, sometimes too much. I remember when I was young, I asked them to let me trip. I tripped, I was no longer innocent, I fell, then my instincts turned my head to my parents for help. They are shelters, always ready, but when will I be ready for myself? They will be gone one day, the ultimate person I can turn to is myself. Not that I do not trust anyone else, but it's the truth.

"Ultimately, we all have to decide for ourselves what constitutes failure, but the world is quite eager to give you a set of criteria if you let it. "
Do you accept the failure model that set by others? Losing a job, not getting a job, not graduating from a degree seemed to be the current model of failure. Accusing the post 80s HK people with "failure" and blaming on the previous generation. Social consequences, maybe, but stereotyping, no. At least not in my dictionary.

Had I really succeeded at anything else, I might never have found the determination to succeed in the one arena I believed I truly belonged."

People once told me I can never truly understand how difficult life can be. I won't suffer from hunger, don't need to chase after money, however, that doesn't mean I do not know the difficulties in life. Mine may not be the same as yours. I tend to forget about failure, as it is painful, I do not wish to recall, it is human instincts. I do not wish to reveal, I wish to forget. That experience is out of my control, I can only make a decision of the consequences by my action, which is usually tends to be selfish.

"And many prefer not to exercise their imaginations at all. They choose to remain comfortably within the bounds of their own experience, never troubling to wonder how it would feel to have been born other than they are. They can refuse to hear screams or to peer inside cages; they can close their minds and hearts to any suffering that does not touch them personally; they can refuse to know.

I might be tempted to envy people who can live that way, except that I do not think they have any fewer nightmares than I do."

I guess no one will object me if I say HK government do not exercise imaginations. They tend to stay in their comfort zones. It's almost a culture. That's why the society is deteriorating, rotting and rusting. I'm not qualify to make judgements since I'm not a lot better than they do. But anyhow, I'm not serving the millions of citizens, and they should have higher aspirations than I do.

That is an astonishing statement and yet proven a thousand times every day of our lives. It expresses, in part, our inescapable connection with the outside world, the fact that we touch other people’s lives simply by existing."

That is what I've constantly heard from my lessons in design schools. We do not need another hero, but how much can imagination tie to reality? Proposals after proposals in the academia, lacking practical sensibility. To be innovative, you have to think 10+ years ahead, which current people won't be able to visualize the "success" and see its benefits, so the proposal is abandoned.

"so is life: not how long it is, but how good it is, is what matters."

I have fear of suffering from pain and poverty, so I may choose the path to success. But I have this chance of not worrying about food and being able to chase after dream, where is my dream? Year by year, I'm diluting my dream with "success" and it became so opaque that it's hard for me to visualize anymore. The older I get, the less courage I have to chase after my dream since the more responsibility I'm having. I wish... and I will do...

Big and bold speeches are beautiful and touching, but they are speeches: experienced by others and somehow fantasized by listeners. It is truly inspiring, but how much can you do about life?

I have left my blog for months but I still got people following me on twitter so I feel like it's time for me to start again.
Have been working for a boring job and studying, so there's not much time left for MYSELF per se. Anyway, here I go on some innovative and actually more .. on detailed observations

I kept being told "DETAILS" is essential to be essential to design and I started to realize that it's true. In this globalized world, we tend to take things for granted and missed the minor stuff that is happening around us...

If you have time, you should watch this TED video, IDEO has always been a loved company in my perspective and I would like to share them with you. (life is not just about fashion, you can always get inspired by other stuffs, to me it's music, gladwell, TED and IDEO)

I'll try to look into the details of fashion and see where I can get inspiration from these, just don't confine yourself I would like, I'm absolutely a fashion victim but my suggestion is be open and explore

A. Magazine.

There are two edgy magazines with wonderful concepts are as simple as ONE LETTER
A & V

They are both somewhat oversized-magazine-with-an-angle-shaped-LETTER. It's not easy to hold it with one hand and read it on a train I must say, but it catches your eye and you feel like it's unique in some way. I just saw the newly release A magazine curated by Proenza Schouler, featuring Chloe Sevigny, available in Page One.

Now I'm switching to my main topic: A Magazine curated by Jun Takahashi, designer of UNDERCOVER. A#4

This is actually collaborated with a Japanese multimedia artist Madsaki, who deals a lot with notorious-tattoo-like-mirror graphics. Madsaki had collaborated projects with Hysteric Mini (20th anniversary project), and adidas etc and graduated from Parsons BFA. Just from his website, I'm not very much impressed by his work, however, when collaborating with Jun Takahashi, there seems to be more conceptual ideas and more elaborated execution of work. I have always been fond of black and white detail-oriented, line-composed graphics and of course with fashion integrated in. YUM.

Another artist that work with Jun Takahashi in A magazine is the legendary Terry Richardson. The photos are of course, very Terry Richardson, just more nude models wearing Undercover stuff in a weird way, not much a surprise for me.

The magazine also includes Jun's creation for new employment ad for Uniqlo: "Need your Mushy Brain", playing a pun on the words “need” and “knead”, and errrr actually I'm not crazy about it.

I think I love the part with Madsaki most.

I find it amazing. Some of you may find it disturbing or yucky, but to me, it's a moving graphical sensation. I didn't find the pictures as awesome, since many of the commercial cosmetics/fashion photographs are like this. However, with motion and sound, things can be so different, you can almost feel it and opens up imagination. I guess I have to go forward with video blogging?

I can't believe this blogger's professor is PAUL RAND, the IBM (eye bee m) logo designer! This book is designed by Jan Tschichold, God I love German Typography Design (well Architecture too).
The blogger said: "many pages had been torn out and many pages had letters cut from them. It was mr rand’s practice to cut letters and use them in his compositions. in a later post I will show you one such example.) he would also tear swatches from covers of art catalogs, books, whatever he fancied to use as a color reference for projects he was working on."

Dude, start a collection!!! Whatever it is, cut and paste, draw, sketch, be a collector/artist. I believe nothing comes from void, the more you see, the more you get. And destroy is the key to success? hahaha

After Coco Avant Chanel has released, everyone is wearing horizontal stripes (I saw at least 3 people in my office today, including me of course) and Boy-Chapel-influenced-Coco style is on the way!

Anyway, that's their Philosophy and I believe every brand needs a Philosophy to be a brand.

Spatial Key. is a new technology produced by Universal Mind.I feel like is the CIA version of Google Map. It can help you research, analyse and visualize (feel faimilar? Parsons D+M student) whatever it's happening in a certain area with numerical datas. I can only think of how useless Hong Kong government are using 天眼 produced by Sanyo (I believe is this one), but can never catch that crazy guy in Mong Kok. I really hope this case will be closed asap. Watch the video and you will understand how Spatial Key. However, you will need Java to be able to run Spatial Key. Download Java here.

Nothing New, and it's very old indeed.
I have searched in various places in Hong Kong and I cannot find this game coz it's old. Is that because no one buys it? I really wonder how it works. The images looks like it's pretty organized and quite convenient.
It is called "MY STYLIST" which acts as a personal wardrobe organizer for use on the PSP. It will let people take snapshots of their wardrobe, organize them, and let them go online to consult friends on what to wear.
No wonder there are so many assistant out there working for fashion industry.

Being naturally healthy is important but it's sometimes hard to succeed if you are living in Hong Kong with all those evil food.

Oats are food with lower G.I. and will make you feel full for a longer period of time to cut the amount of junks you intake. I usually eat with 鈣思寶 from VITASOY. My dad usually eat with hot water plus sesame oil.

Blueberries

Honestly, don't go crazy and over-dosing these food. I've had blueberry with yoghurt and lots of dark chocolates... Gained a lot of weight...And I don't recommend the recipes on Daily Green website, they sounds fattening to me e.g. bread pudding etc.

I love the texture of the wool. It's like suit texture. The tongue is a bit small, looks weird at first but special later.

I came across this T-shirt from DailyCandy, they suggested this for Father's Day. I guess my father is not interested in this, but I am. Anyway, it's from Outlier. This T-shirt is called the Empire Merino T-Shirt, made of Merino Wool. Never heard of tailored performance T-shirt made of wool, curious to know how "dry fit" it can be.

I love this new shorts Outlier is introducing, so "chic" for guys. Nice length and nice fit.

I like the guy in the middle's style. The loafers are nice. Loafers for cycling, wow.

Lovely Climber Pants, nice length nice fit. And note the SHOES again.

Detailed shot on what you can hang on your body while cycling to avoid bringing a huge messenger bag on your back.

I would suggest wearing the Empire Merino T-shirt, with the short pants/climber pants with loafers for stylish cyclist. You don't have to be like this:

Here it is, try developing it more.

I watched Star Trek today! I missed the grand premiere in The Grand Cinema hosted by Milk Magazine, so I went to watch that tonight. It's a good movie, definitely worth watching, I'll probably watch the older series in the near future too.

Anyway, I came across today's "Look of the Day" from Style.com and got inspired by the fashion. Two of the looks are very futuristic (the blue look's headpiece only though) and my brain linked them to Star Trek. Guess which one I have voted for and which one have you voted for? I have never been a fan of Fendi, but I can see they are changing to more colorful tones and targeting younger generations. From the multi-color to even paint-your-own Baguette Bag to this floral dress. Personally, I love the Rodarte version better, I was there in their show (as a helper), the flowers are stunning. It's hard for Ai to get into the dress (PS she's late that night =P), but it's the last piece and the most recognized piece. I love Rodarte and independent creative designers! Rock ON!

Ewan McGregor's character caught my attention in Angels & Demons. His look in the premiere is also did.

Ewan wears Neil Barrett, English born, Italian living designer. I really like what Ewan said about Neil Barrett: Neil Barrett is my favourite designer and in fact, the only designer I like to wear. I'm very loyal to him. There's a little bit of punk in what he does, but It's also very elegant. His clothing can be quite dressy without making you feel like you're dressed up.

I love Punk, freestyle with style.

(LONDON) Julie Verhoeven’s cult bags for Louis Vuitton in 2002 may have been an instant hit, but for fall, the artist has collaborated with another classic leather goods house—only this one is in her own backyard. Mulberry has asked the London-based artist to create a capsule collection of dresses, scarves, T-shirts, and bags inspired by the marriage of British eccentricity and luxury. The pieces will be in stores this September.

Verhoeven, famed for her quirky, erotic collage figure drawings, worked with Mulberry design director Stuart Vevers to translate her aesthetic into product. The collection features a $1,995 smock dress with ribbon appliqué detail and a large quilted chain handle bag priced at $1,195. Also in the collection are two tees, priced at $99 each, and a giant silk scarf. The print on the products is a collage of flowers, faces, and graphics in pink, rose, and white on a black background.

Asked what she, a designer with authentic indie stature, intended by blanketing SoHo this week with her name on posters and her little smock dresses in two stores, she came right to the point. She wanted to see whether or not people would actually buy her clothes.

FAST FASHION An Alice Roi smock dress, part of her new collection for Uniqlo.

Ms. Roi is one of eight guest designers selling a capsule collection at the Uniqlo flagship on lower Broadway this spring, and her $49.50 paper-bag shorts and $69.50 smock dresses caused the usual fast-fashion frenzy when they went on sale Friday morning. Ms. Roi was there, too.

For three days beginning today, she also plans to sell her signature spring runway designs, with dresses that start at $300, at a “pop up” shop nearby at 76 Greene Street, a space normally used for sample sales. Ms. Roi said she figured that with the added exposure from the Uniqlo collection, it was a good moment to test the retail waters herself.

“I thought it would be a good idea to get my feet wet first and not fully commit to a store,” she said.

Still, her name was pervasive on the streets. Racked.com, a shopping blog, described the dual approach, including the Alice Roi posters around the neighborhood, as “the Roi-ification of SoHo.” An exaggeration, considering Ms. Roi has been in business since 2000 and is not as powerful a presence as all that. But she has developed a fan base among women who favor an alternative view of pretty other than satin ruffles and tweed bouclé jackets and are willing to seek her out.

“It’s great to have the whole brand represented, rather than a rack of clothes that’s next to another rack of someone else’s clothes,” Ms. Roi said.

To give a better sense of what she has in mind for a permanent store someday, she transformed the pop-up space into what she described as a “sculptural cleaned-up theme park” by installing whitewashed roller coaster tracks along the floor, kites on the ceiling and fun-house changing rooms that give the illusion of being as transparent as her intentions. Ms. Roi said voyeurs will be able to make out only general shapes behind a curtain.

I can totally understand people waiting outside of TopShop, getting the pieces designed by Kate. There was Victor and Rolf (honestly I won't consider Madonna) and stella mccartney. Moss is even a bigger hit since well.. personally I would love Topshop more than H&M and Kate more than Stella (even though Stella is the fashion designer). Price-wise is like double price than what was sold in the collaboration in H&M (despite the fact that exchange rate is more than double)! But I am sure they will be cleaned out within hours.

Yohji with Mikimoto

After the collaboration with Doc Martens, Yohji has this new collaboraion with jewelry designer Mikimoto. Yohji Yamamoto and the Japanese jewelry firm have announced plans for a joint project set to debut this fall, when they will align their talents to create an unprecedented series of fine jewelry collections.

Yamamoto’s focus on designing this jewelry collection centers on the pearl. While the collection is still in development phases, a spokesperson for Mikimoto said that the collection of 20 pieces, comprising three groups, will range in price from approximately $2,500 to $150,000 and include necklaces, pendants, earrings, rings, and bracelets.

Starting in November 2007, the distribution will be limited to the Yohji Yamamoto and the 19 freestanding Mikimoto stores worldwide, as well as select points of sales in the United States. In 2008, the distribution will be expanded in Europe and Asia.

It was not enough for Self Service to pay tribute to the beautiful Chloë Sevigny in its magazine. Work in Progress, the design office, now offers four posters (120x170 cm), silk-screened in 5 different colours, in limited edition.

I still have no idea why she's so popular. She has some sense of fashion but people usually said she just lucky. But I LOVE self service magazine!! and the chloe word looks very colette. Love it.

After Target + Proenza Schouler, it’s time for new Asian deisnger Phllip Lim and another huge mass clothing production company from Japan, Uniqlo. Uniqlo opened its global flagship store on Broadway New York. Uniqlo's SoHo global flagship will be the brand's largest retail store anywhere in the world.
The line consists of trapeze dresses, tomboy vests, and high-waist shorts. Lim’s collection is one in a series of collaborations for the store. Other spotlighting cashmere gurus Lutz &Patmos and the ever hip Alice Roi will also be featured.
